Finally, the rain comes – and with it returns joie de vivre. The children jump excitedly through the tropical woods, sing, dance, burst suddenly over and over again into resounding laughter. The old crawl out of their huts and wash away the salt from their bodies with soap – the salt that runs out of the wrinkles in their skin straight into the wrinkles of the soil, forming rivulets on the floor of the village, that then seeps away. The taro sucks it in fully, the youngest buds spring out of the branches of the hibiscus, the pigs rub their noses into the fresh mud. And, in the hearts of the young fishermen who walk in groups through the waters oft he shore, awakens a manly pride.
